Writing In My Head

I seem to be writing in my head, but not writing it down. It seems that during the daytime, I’m either too tired, or we are doing errands, or right now, in the midst of seeing new doctors. That’s what happens when you move.

I was looking through some old writing, and boy, does it still apply to today. For instance in 2000, about six months after moving into our new house in Sun City Anthem, I wrote something called:

“Projects:  and part of it went this way:

Man have I got lots of projects in my head I want to do in the next few weeks. First and foremost, my usual project, clearing the clutter off my desk.

It’s in it’s usual disarray. Recipes competing with email and letters to answer, www. web sites to look at. New restaurants to try. There is a glass of water, the telephone, pads of empty paper sit alongsdie the paperclips and rubber bands.

Then  there is the bookshelves. My friend Jeanne reminded me of the word I was looking for. CATEGORY. I should call it scattergories.  Fiction, Non Fiction, novels, books I haven’t read yet, cookbooks, art books, writing books, Fibromyalgia books and health books, self help book and the classics to reread and the list goes on and on.

The manuscript, I talk bout it, now I have to work on it. I have to go to Office Max, and get some notebooks for all my writing projects. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here because this will take weeks and weeks to do.”

Everything changes, nothing changes.

But, this time, something did change. I started my Adopt A Caregiver program. You can see it at

check it out. It’s my new journey, for the rest of my life, as is writing.

Waiting For Sunday

I always wait for Sunday. These days it’s usually my catch up day. That means I have to clean up the clutter in my office. I always have too many projects going on at once.

My desk is in it’s usual disarray . There are recipes competing with emails and letters to answer. Websites I want to comment on, questions to ask anyone who knows about links, social networking. It’s all Greek to me.

And my bookshelves. I’m a book junkie. My friend reminded me the word I was looking for was category, when I said I wanted to organize them. But truthfully, I should call them scattergories. For their is fiction, non fiction, novels, books I haven’t read yet, cookbooks nestled next to art books, and the craft of writing books, and the list goes on and on.

When that’s finished, there are the insides of all the drawers and file cabinets. They aren’t in bad shape, because you can’t see inside them.

Then there is my writing. This blog, short stories, memoirs, bits and pieces of writing to be finished, edited, and filed away — or published?

Sorry, I have to leave. I’m going to Office Max and get some new notebooks for all my writing.

I’m going to be making some notes on memoir writing in the next couple of months. Our writing group is going to give a workshop on this subject. I think I will include some of it here, in case any of you would like to try to write your memoir.

Because it’s holiday season, remember the caregiver.

Adopt A Caregiver, and give the gift that lasts forever, and costs nothing. Tell them your friend Helene sent you.

Keep love and kisses in your life. Helene

One Year Older

I am now as old as my husband Howard, at least for a few weeks.

Stitches come out of my finger on Wednesday, thank goodness. Catching up on my reading since I can’t knit, writing is too hard, and the computer is also difficult.

I liked The Linnett Bird by Linda Holeman. I just started Absolute Scandal by Penny Vincenzi. I loved her trilogy from a few years ago.

Speaking to a group tomorrow night about my adopt a caregiver program. This is exciting for me, to be able to spread my word about adopt a caregiver. I wrote to two of my caregivers this past week. I know they are always happy to hear from me.

I’d love to hear from you about your thoughts on adopt a caregiver. Please add your comments, and questions, and I will do my best to answer each and every one of them

Till my stitches come out on Wednesday, stay well and give something back.

Keep love and kisses in your life. Helene
